How it Began...

Founders are Wes & Michelle Parker. Wes was born and raised in Sonoma County, California. This is where he was introduced to the wine industry - where grapes and wine are a way of life and vineyards right in his backyard. You might say it is in his blood. In his early adulthood, Wes worked in the wine industry in Oregon for several years. This is where his love and passion for wine developed. Wes worked with several great wineries and winemakers in the Willamette Valley while he worked at the family business Northwest Distribution and Storage. The Willamette Valley is where Wes developed knowledge and a palate for great wine and a love for the industry. A couple years after Wes started working in the wine industry, he met and married Michelle. They moved to the Willamette Valley where some of our wonderful Northwest wines are created. The couple lived in the Valley for six years and regularly visited the wineries and winemakers. Their passion for wine, wine culture and the atmosphere of the wineries made a strong impression on them. After Wes and Michelle moved from the Valley, they knew that they wanted to return to the wine industry someday in the future.

In 2004, Wes and Michelle established the business, "Children of the Sun Koi." With that business we import Japanese Koi fish and Koi products. One evening after we started "Children of the Sun Koi" we had a discussion over a couple glasses of wine with friends. We were discussing Wine and Koi fish and how the two industries were actually very similar. The Koi industry has a lot of farming and so does wine, Koi enthusiasts and Wine enthusiasts both enjoy quality products, both industries are elite and very challenging . The idea of Koi Pond Cellars was born. Wes and Michelle frequently talked about the Koi Label and how exciting it would be to start this business venture together. Unfortunately, timing was not right at that moment but the dream and passion was still there.

The story continues...

A few years down the road in 2010, Wes and Michelle opened a new store for Children of the Sun Koi. A discussion about the Koi Pond Cellars started again, we agreed that it was time to start the business venture. In 2011 Wes & Michelle opened Koi Pond Cellars as a "Wine specialty shop" at the same location as "Children of the Sun Koi" in Salmon Creek WA. We operated for approximately one year at the location in Salmon Creek WA. We had to move locations suddenly as our landlord had lost the building we were leasing. Children of the Sun Koi and Koi Pond Cellars had no choice and had to change locations.

Wes and Michelle moved the businesses a few miles North to Ridgefield WA. After some effort and appeals to the County we were forced to change the business structure from a "Wine specialty shop" to a Federally approved TTB Winery because of zoning issues. Koi Pond Cellars is now a Winery in Ridgefield WA. We received our Winery permits and opened May 2014. We opened a tasting room in Historic Downtown Ridgefield on June 28 2014.

Where we are now...

Wes & Michelle Parker have had some trials and challenges along the way. Business partners come & go, employees come & go and locations have changed due to negligent landlords. At the end of the day Wes & Michelle Parker and their family are still working very hard to keep on making great wine for you and the community. Wes & Michelle are very committed to these businesses and the community of Ridgefield WA. We acquired property August 1st 2016 and we are working diligently to develop it into a place that we can reside at and work at with our family and businesses. We hope to open this winery location to the public Spring 2017.

The Winery production and shipping & receiving address is 24211 NE 41st Ave Ridgefield WA 98642. Children of the Sun Koi is on the same location.
